But he IS pretty much the only contemporary equivalent of this sort of thing, even though I find Tonight's the Night is cringeworthily unwatchable unless I'm already drunk.

Frankly, they should just cut out the "granting unambitious wishes to heroic housewives" element and have him duetting on a stool with Lynsey de Paul or Nana Mouskouri. That, I would watch.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3232389689701494095.post-15265123545360827482012-05-15T00:28:25.852-07:002012-05-15T00:28:25.852-07:00Noel Gallagher would be great - but would he get i...Noel Gallagher would be great - but would he get in the swing of the skits? We'll never know until he tries.

Olly Murs has got Mr Saturday Night written all over him. Loved by kids, mums and grans. Perfect.

That road sign thing rings a Bell, Mondo, and requires further investigation.

And I'm hoping that B-side will be on the complete Cilla 5-CD set I've just ordered. I've just done the same with Mike Oldfied, and frankly you can never have enough Mike Oldfield.Jon Peakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04471926651090670258noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3232389689701494095.post-4044618273386535702012-05-14T19:24:53.294-07:002012-05-14T19:24:53.294-07:00Having a TV show in those days must have been very...Having a TV show in those days must have been very prestigious, high production values and all, though the style looks a bit corny now. I suppose Des O'Connor has had the best, or at least the most successful, singer-to-TVshow-host crossover career?

If I had to put a show like that together this year, of current people to host, I'd pick a person like Gary Barlow, Noel Gallagher, Kylie Minogue or Olly Murs. Mainly because they are all seemingly completely nerveless, and they can all yak on a bit so no big silence problems. Noel Gallagher could be a hilarious choice.office pesthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15516888180507856752noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3232389689701494095.post-63822921503160390362012-05-14T15:08:22.594-07:002012-05-14T15:08:22.594-07:00Didn't Cliff used to do a piece based around r...Didn't Cliff used to do a piece based around road signs and giving them a new spin 'man having trouble opening umbrella' type skits.

I love that sleeve - like a nod to the MFP TOTP albumsMondohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11199468951602465556noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3232389689701494095.post-60291071415678764422012-05-14T13:31:16.539-07:002012-05-14T13:31:16.539-07:00The B-side of that single is my fave Cilla track. ...The B-side of that single is my fave Cilla track. Mainly because it's the song at the end of the Please Sir movie which is undoubtedly the best movie of all time :)Wilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13585015797612538785noreply@blogger.com
